AI share of voice · GEO share of voice
AI Share of Voice is the share of AI answers, over a given set of prompts, in which a brand is cited compared with its competitors. It is the core metric of GEO reporting: it reduces visibility in AI engines to a percentage that can be compared over time.
Standalone definition · 49 words
How do you calculate AI Share of Voice?
Define a set of prompts representative of the market, submit them to each engine several times, then count the answers that cite each brand. Share of voice = answers citing the brand ÷ total answers in the set × 100. The calculation is done per engine and per topic.
Why repeat each prompt?
AI engine answers vary from one run to the next. A single measurement is misleading. Repeating each prompt several times and using the citation frequency gives a more stable basis.
What pitfalls should you avoid?
A set too close to the brand, prompts that mention the brand, mixing engines without distinguishing them and failing to separate citation, mention and recommendation. Document the method so you can compare month to month.
