Zero-click search · No-click search
A zero-click search is a search whose answer is provided directly in the SERP or AI interface, with no click to a site. AI Overviews and LLMs structurally amplify this. According to SparkToro and Datos, 58.5% of Google searches in the US and 59.7% in the EU ended without a click in 2024.

What does the SparkToro study say?
The 2024 study relies on Datos panel data between September 2022 and May 2024. Per 1,000 Google searches, about 360 clicks in the US and 374 in the EU went to the open web, the rest staying within Google’s ecosystem or ending there. Figures vary with the method and scope of studies.
Why does visibility without clicks matter?
A brand cited in an AI answer gains awareness and consideration without a visit. Measuring only traffic underestimates this visibility. You need complementary indicators: AI impressions, citations, share of voice, brand searches and assisted conversions.
How do you adapt?
Aim for citation and mention in addition to the click, produce content that answers and gives a reason to click (data, tools, detail), build the brand so it is searched for directly and track CTR changes by query type in Search Console.
Frequently asked questions
Is zero-click new?
No. It existed with featured snippets and knowledge panels. AI extends it.
Are figures from different studies comparable?
Not always: definitions and panels differ.
Should I give up on organic traffic?
No, but also steer visibility without clicks.
