AI visibility · Visibility in AI answers
AI visibility measures how often a brand is mentioned or its site cited in AI engines’ answers, over a given prompt corpus. It is the overall GEO indicator, broken down into brand visibility, source visibility, position and share of voice.
Standalone definition · 40 words
How is it measured?
A set of prompts is regularly submitted to several engines, then the brands named and sources used are recorded in each answer. Peec AI, for example, defines visibility as the percentage of answers where the brand appears. The result depends on the prompt corpus, the engine, the language and the date: a score only makes sense with its scope.
How does it differ from a ranking?
An AI answer varies from one run to the next: there is no stable position 1. You reason in frequency of appearance over series of measurements, as with volatility, rather than a single rank. AI visibility is also not traffic: a brand can be cited without generating a click.
What do you do with the number?
Compare it with competitors on the same corpus, track it over time and tie it to the cited pages. Always distinguish brand visibility (name cited) from source visibility (domain used), which do not coincide.
Frequently asked questions
Is AI visibility an official metric?
No. Google offers an AI impressions report in Search Console and Bing an AI Performance report, but the AI visibility score is a construct of third-party tools whose method varies.
How do you make it reliable?
By fixing the prompt corpus, engines, frequency and detection rule, then repeating measurements to absorb answer variability.
