AI position · A brand’s rank within the answer
AI position is the average rank at which a brand is cited in generated answers when it appears: 1 for a brand named first, 5 for fifth place. It measures order within the answer, not a ranking of pages.
Standalone definition · 39 words
How is it read?
Peec AI defines it as a brand’s average rank in the answers where it appears, a lower figure being better. It is computed only on answers where the brand appears: a brand rarely cited but always first can have an excellent position with low visibility.
Why doesn’t it replace SEO rank?
An AI answer changes from one run to the next and citation order depends on the model’s wording. Position is therefore read as an average over series of prompts, together with visibility and share of voice, never alone.
How do you improve it?
The levers are those of citability and recommendation: a clear positioning on the topic, comparisons where the brand is justified by criteria, and third-party sources describing it. Do not interpret a position change on a small series of prompts.
Frequently asked questions
Is AI position comparable across tools?
Rarely: each tool sets its own prompt corpus, engines and detection rule.
Does rank 1 guarantee a click?
No. A brand named first only brings traffic if the answer includes a link or prompts a brand search.
