Deep Search · Google AI Mode deep research
Deep Search is the in-depth mode of Google’s AI Mode, announced at Google I/O in May 2025. It pushes the query fan-out logic to several hundred sub-queries to produce a sourced report in a few minutes.
Standalone definition · 36 words
How does Deep Search work?
Google describes it as a mechanism that runs hundreds of searches, reasons across scattered information and builds a complete report with citations. The mechanics are those of query fan-out, at a larger scale and with longer processing time.
What is the impact on content?
A report sourced from hundreds of searches draws on far more pages than a classic answer. Deep, precise, well-sourced content is more likely to be selected for a section of the report. Shallow pages add little to a synthesis like this.
How do you prepare?
Cover a subject by angles (definitions, comparisons, data, methods), with standalone sections and sourced figures, link pages together and keep the site fast and crawlable. Measure with Search Console AI impressions, with no distinction between modes.

Is Deep Search different from AI Mode?

Can Deep Search be measured separately?
Not in the current generative AI report, which groups AI features together.
