What happened to FAQ rich results?

Google had already restricted display to government and health sites in 2023. On May 7, 2026, a notice added to its documentation states that FAQ rich results no longer appear in Search. According to industry reports, the search appearance filter, the dedicated report and support in the rich results test were removed in June 2026, and API support in Search Console ends in August 2026.

Should you remove your FAQPage markup?

No. Google says it still uses this markup to better understand pages, and that unused structured data causes no problems. You should, however, update dashboards that relied on the FAQ report.

FAQPage and GEO

A real FAQ (questions asked by users, standalone answers) remains an easy format for an AI engine to extract. The markup must reflect the visible content. No engine has documented that FAQPage increases citations: use it for clarity, not as a guaranteed lever.

Frequently asked questions

Is FAQPage obsolete?

The type is not deprecated in Schema.org. It is Google’s rich result that disappeared.

Should I still write FAQs?

Yes, if they answer real questions. Avoid artificial, keyword-stuffed FAQs.

Do Bing or other engines read FAQPage?

Other engines may read the markup, with no guarantee of effect.
